Today’s giveaway is brought to you by Manna Organics, a family-owned and -operated bakery in the Chicagoland area.
If you haven’t had Manna bread before, you’re in for a treat. A small team of dedicated bakers makes Manna Organics’ bread by hand in small batches. It can be best described as hearty slices of whole sprouted grains, denser than your average bread. Manna bread is unleavened, so it doesn’t rise when baked, and contains no yeast, salt, flour, oil, or sugar. It’s baked at low temperatures for a short time, so you might even say it’s “almost raw”! As a bonus, nearly all the varieties are high in both fiber and protein.
When Manna Organics contacted me asking if I’d like to try their sprouted grain breads (any 4 loaves of my choice!), I happily accepted. From their original Manna breads line, I selected a loaf of Multigrain (made with sprouted wheat kernels, filtered water, brown rice, barley, millet, flaxseeds, rye kernels, soybeans, rolled oats, oat bran, and cornmeal—all organic) and a loaf of Cinnamon Date (containing only sprouted organic wheat kernels, filtered water, organic dates, organic cinnamon, and organic oatmeal!). The breads come frozen, so I’m able to thaw out and enjoy a little at a time, which is great. Matt’s munching on a thick slice of the dense, sticky Cinnamon Date bread as we speak.
Manna Organics launched a new line of artisan sourdough breads earlier this year. These are made Bavarian-style, and are much denser and more flavorful than your typical sandwich bread. They use only organic rye and/or wheat flour as a base, and do not add any yeast, oils, sweeteners, or baking aids of any kind. I was REALLY excited about these—my German heritage doesn’t come through often in my food choices, but as far as bread goes, I adore sourdough! (Ironically, it was exactly 2 years ago today that I posted about my time in Munich, Germany, including a very memorable night at Oktoberfest!)
I chose the Whole Rye (containing only organic rye flour, filtered water, sea salt, organic caraway seeds, organic fennel seeds, and organic coriander seeds) and Multigrain Flax (made with filtered water, whole wheat flour, rye flour, multigrain blend [whole wheat, rye, barley, oats, flax, millet, and buckwheat], flaxseeds, and sea salt—all organic) loaves. I ate a slice of the Multigrain Flax just this morning, toasted and slathered with Earth Balance coconut spread. It’s super chewy and satisfying.

Definitely the Cinnamon Date. That’s one of my favorite combos of all time. There are so many to choose from! Whole rye…you know what? Same as you! Your slices look so good. I think the Manna website needs close ups of the bread slices like you have. I can’t resist your pics!
