As I’m sure you’ve gathered by now, Matt and I went for a feeling of “gothic elegance” at our wedding. Our colors were black and white, our theme was bats, and the look and feel we went for (and, we think, achieved) was that of modern yet offbeat minimalism.
As I’ve mentioned before, I wore this lovely bat silhouette necklace by FableAndFury, which was purchased on Etsy.
Matt and I bought poster board, rubber cement, and construction paper from a hobby store and built our seating “chart” in less than 20 minutes.
We also made our own menu cards and table name cards out of construction paper. Our table names were all single-word Nine Inch Nails songs: Wish, Ghosts, Please, Eraser, Sin, Closer, Pinion, Last, Burn, Only, and – for Matt’s and my sweetheart table at the front – Ringfinger, of course.
Also at Matt’s and my table were these amazing custom his-and-hers “bat art” pieces handmade and framed by my dear friend Emily.
We also had these displayed on our PB&J table at the ceremony.
Matt and I also cut out dozens of construction paper bats which our day-of coordinator Erika (seen below [on the left] at the DJ booth) taped up all over the walls for us.
Finally, perhaps our favorite touch of the night were these black candelabras (with white soy candlesticks) that we purchased cheaply at Hobby Lobby and had sitting on a white doily atop each black-tablecloth-draped table. As these burned throughout the night, the wax slowly dribbled down the candlesticks, creating a delightfully eerie effect. (You saw a time-lapse of this in our video.)
They burned ALL the way down, too—this is what they looked like afterward!
I have only one wedding post left (I think), and I saved the best for last…our CAKES! Next post, you’ll hear all about them.
